A Finnish innovation saves firewood and reduces emissions – Matti saved significantly on firewood costs

With rising energy prices, fireplaces are being used more frequently, and smoke is billowing from chimneys at a completely different rate than people are accustomed to from recent years. Burning wood can also significantly reduce electricity bills on the coldest days of winter. Heating with a fireplace offers a solution to lower high heating costs. Wood has been burned in fireplaces for ages, and heating with a fireplace is gaining popularity again as people look for solutions to escape the grip of high electricity bills.

But…

The rise in energy prices also affects the price and availability of firewood. The value of firewood is increasing, and as much heat as possible should be extracted from each cubic meter of firewood.

In this situation, it is a good idea to pay attention to your wood-burning habits, as clean wood combustion also saves money. Incompletely burned wood produces harmful fine particulate emissions, which also degrade the quality of the air in the environment. Along with the emissions escaping into the environment, a significant amount of heat energy is also lost as waste heat.

A retired firefighter developed a device that saves firewood and reduces emissions

This Finnish innovation makes your existing fireplace more efficient and burn cleaner. The product achieves cleaner combustion, less smoke nuisance, and clear financial savings.

The efficiency lies in the airflow. Unique patented combustion technology directs the combustion air where it is scientifically proven to be needed, i.e., over the combustion gases during the combustion process.

Preheated air does not cool the combustion gases, and when properly directed, the combustion gases burn efficiently in the firebox, rather than escaping unburned as waste heat and pollution into the environment. The product is easy to use. The device is placed on top of the fireplace grate, and the firewood is loaded onto the lower level of the Ekoair.

In the accompanying video, you can see in more detail how the device works.

Firewood savings of up to 40%

The product was developed by retired firefighter Pasi Sillanpää and is entirely Finnish. Pasi came up with the idea while working at a firefighter training course. This patented product solves common problems of traditional fireplaces, such as high wood consumption, soot buildup on the door, smoke nuisance, draft, and ignition problems. At the same time, it reduces harmful fine particulate emissions caused by burning wood.

LumoX already has hundreds of satisfied users, and Oulu resident Matti Sirkka is one of them. Here are Matti's experiences with the LumoX EkoAir air director:

The device is in daily use, and I have, of course, been very satisfied with it since I started using it every day. Previously, the firebox had to be filled completely, but now with LumoX, you only need to fill half the firebox, and with smaller wood. There is a clear difference in wood consumption compared to before; less wood is used, and the burn time is significantly longer. The surface temperature of the fireplace may not be quite as hot as before, but the heat is delivered evenly. I have managed to get the burn time up to three hours at best, even four, with only a little over half a firebox of wood. It also extends the ember burn nicely when needed. The fireplace also draws better than before, and smoke has never entered the house.
